FLORENCE<\/strong><\/h1>\n<p data-sourcepos=\"3:1-3:69\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ostellosantamonaca.com\/en\/hostel-florence\/\">Santa Monaca Hostel<\/a>, located in the heart of Florence, has a rich and fascinating history dating back to the 15th century.<\/p>\n<p data-sourcepos=\"5:1-5:25\"><strong>Origins as a convent:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul data-sourcepos=\"7:1-7:19\">\n<li data-sourcepos=\"7:1-7:19\">In the 1400s,\u00a0the building was known as &#8220;l&#8217;Albergaccio&#8221; and belonged to the Florentine Baldassarre Bonsi.<\/li>\n<li data-sourcepos=\"8:1-8:12\">In 1442,\u00a0Ubertino de Bardi transformed it into a convent for the Augustinian order of Santa Monica.<\/li>\n<li data-sourcepos=\"9:1-9:70\">The convent prospered for centuries,\u00a0becoming an important religious and cultural center.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-sourcepos=\"11:1-11:52\"><strong>The vicissitudes of the 19th and 20th centuries:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul data-sourcepos=\"13:1-16:0\">\n<li data-sourcepos=\"13:1-13:107\">In 1808,\u00a0during the Napoleonic suppressions,\u00a0the convent was confiscated and used as a military barracks.<\/li>\n<li data-sourcepos=\"14:1-14:68\">In 1944,\u00a0during World War II,\u00a0the building was damaged by bombing.<\/li>\n<li data-sourcepos=\"15:1-16:0\">In 1966,\u00a0the <strong>Florence<\/strong> flood devastated the complex,\u00a0making it uninhabitable.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-sourcepos=\"17:1-17:24\"><strong>Rebirth as a hostel:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul data-sourcepos=\"19:1-19:114\">\n<li data-sourcepos=\"19:1-19:114\">In 1972,\u00a0thanks to the efforts of AGESCI (Associazione Scout Cattolici Italiani),\u00a0the building was renovated and inaugurated as a hostel.<\/li>\n<li data-sourcepos=\"20:1-21:0\">Since
