Calcio Storico, born right in Florence in the 16th century, is a combination of soccer, rugby and world wrestling, which nowadays is played in historical costumes. The 4 teams from the 4 historical districts of Florence compete against each other, playing the two semi-finals and the final to determine the winner.

The four teams are: Santa Croce (blue), Santo Spirito (white), Santa Maria Novella (red) and San Giovanni (green).

Piazza Santa Croce, located in front of the church of Santa Croce, has always been the place where this game, better known as Giuoco del Calcio Fiorentino, or more simply as Calcio, has been played. The square is set up as it was in the days when the game began, that is a dirty and dusty square where there were no stones.

The spectacle is unique and original, each team gives its best to overcome the other and there is only one goal, that of bringing the ball to the end of the opponent’s field. So a great fight of high agonism and very marked physical resistance is played, where the clash is part of the game and the ability of the “Kickers” and their physical performance and preparation, is the basis of the achievement of the result.
